How Did Many Indian Entrepreneurs Survive Despite Tight Economic Controls Imposed by the British Government?

Many Indian entrepreneurs survived despite tight economic controls imposed by the British government due to the following reasons:

  1. The Indian entrepreneurs did not want to compete with the Manchester goods therefore they produced cotton yarn rather than fabric which was either used by the Indian handloom weavers or exported to China.
  2. During the Swadeshi Movement the people boycotted the foreign clothes.
  3. The Indian industrial groups organized themselves and pressurized the government to increase tariff protection and for granting other concessions.
