As Douglas went down the water with a yellow glow, he was seized by a sheer, stark terror, which knew no understanding and no control. He was paralysed under water-stiff, rigid with fear. Although he was shrieking under water, it seemed frozen. Only his heart and the pounding in his head made Douglas feel alive.
