What are the different groups to which the followers of the Buddha belonged?

The followers of the Buddha belonged to diverse groups.

  1. The followers of Buddha included the elite section of the society such as Kings, Gahapatis and wealthy men.
  2. The humbler sections of the society such as the craftsmen, weavers, workers and slaves.
  3. The most special feature about the Buddhist Sangha was that everyone was considered equal in the Sangha.
