Mention in brief the history of the city of Pataliputra.

Earlier Pataliputra used to be a village named ‘Pataligrama’. It was during the fifth century BCE, that the Magadha rulers decided to shift their capital from the city of Rajagriha to Pataliputra. After this decision, the city emerged as the centre of power and remained so for several years.
