Difference between Solid, Liquid and Gas

Solid, liquid, and gas are three different states of matter that can exist at different temperatures and pressures. The main differences between these three states of matter are:

1. Shape: Solids have a definite shape, while liquids take on the shape of their container and gases fill the entire space available to them.

2. Volume: Solids have a definite volume, while liquids and gases do not. Liquids have a fixed volume, but it can be changed by compressing or expanding them. Gases, on the other hand, can be compressed or expanded to fill any space available to them.

3. Interparticle distance: In solids, the particles are closely packed together and have very little movement. In liquids, the particles are less tightly packed and can move around each other, but still remain close together. In gases, the particles are very far apart and have a lot of movement, making them highly compressible.

4. Forces of attraction: In solids, the particles have strong forces of attraction between them, which keep them closely packed together. In liquids, the forces of attraction are weaker, allowing the particles to move around each other more freely. In gases, the forces of attraction are very weak, which allows the particles to move freely and independently of each other.

5. Density: Solids are usually denser than liquids and gases. Liquids are denser than gases.

In summary, solids have a fixed shape and volume, while liquids and gases take on the shape of their container. The interparticle distance and forces of attraction are different in each state, which gives them unique physical properties such as density, compressibility, and fluidity.
