He was the funniest boy I had ever met. He would make everyone laugh by playing pranks. Everybody used to laugh and laugh till their stomachs ached and eyes started watering. My classmate Jatin, was a real Joker, comedian and entertainer; how should I define him?
Whenever we had any free period, the monitor of the class would immediately turn to him for telling jokes. But, the whole class had to close their mouth and laugh. So that the teachers wouldn’t punish the class. But was it possible? Each day someone or the other would burst out with big Ha ha ha…, and then we all would get punished.
He did mimicry of the great comedians of the Hindi Film Industry like Keshto Mukherjee, Mukri, Jagdeep, Shakti Kapoor, Kader Khan, even female artists like Tuntun etc. Each day he would see some comedy movie and learn the dialogues immediately and act on the same dialogues in our class and we would all applaud him. This kept on encouraging him.
As a result, he started playing pranks on teachers, juniors, school staff nearly every day. And just to get the attention he did everything possible to make everyone laugh. Day by day, his studies got distracted. We all told him to concentrate on his studies because our board papers were approaching. But he didn’t take them seriously. He failed in the two subjects pre-board papers.
The principal called his parents and warned them, but instead of apologizing, he started persuading the principal in Keshto Mukherjee style. Immediately, he was thrown out of the Principal’s office. In Board exams also he didn’t do well and got just passing marks.
At last, his father got tired of him and sent him to some boarding school where his life changed drastically. He became a shrewd M.B.B.S. doctor. Now he rarely laughs and takes his profession very seriously. He is a renowned doctor in our town.
When we friends go and meet him, he is no more the same funny boy of the class who would make everyone laugh. We all keep wondering this is Jatin, the same boy who was a full-time entertainment?
