Why was Gandhiji opposed to C.F. Andrews helping him in Champaran?

Gandhiji opposed to C.F. Andrews helping him in Champaran because the Indians were fighting an unequal fight. Therefore, the support of an Englishman would show the weakness of heart of the Indians. Gandhiji even wanted Indians to rely on themselves and to be free of fear.
