What was Hana’s role in Dr. Sadao’s life when he brought home an injured American soldier?

Hana was Dr. Sadao’s wife. She supported him whole heartedly when they brought the enemy soldier to their house. She washed the soldier clean when Yumi refused to do so. She also helped him in the surgery as she gave anesthesia to the enemy soldier while Dr. Sadao operated upon him. Though she had never seen an operation earlier and felt nausea but still she came back after vomiting and resumed her work.
