How did the writer indicate that Dr. Sadao’s father was a very traditional and conventional man?

Dr. Sadao’s father was a very traditional and conventional man. His son’s education was his chief concern. He sent his son to America for higher education where Dr. Sadao met Hana. He liked her but did not propose her till his father accepted her as someone ‘pure in her race’. The room of Dr. Sadao also had furniture which was purely Japanese. There was not a trace of foreign elements in his room.
