How did Albert hope to get admission in an Italian College?

Albert hoped to get admission in an Italian college without a diploma from the Germany school by getting a reference from his Mathematics teacher. His Maths teacher had said: “If I say I can’t teach you anymore and probably you will soon be able to teach me, will that be all right.” This could establish his credentials that he knows and had studied Maths properly.
