Cite examples of some incidents which displays that the nineteenth-century Europeans were interested in the site of Sanchi stupa.

The Europeans especially the French and the English were interested in the site of Sanchi Stupa. Some incidents to prove this are:

  1. The French tried to sought permission from the Shahjehan Begum to took away the Eastern gateway of the stupa.
  2. The English made an excavation at the site under the command of Alexander Cunningham and spend several days on the site.
